As summer descends on Tirumala, the Tirumala temple sees an influx of pilgrims seeking blessings. To combat the sweltering heat, TTD has implemented extensive measures aimed at providing relief and enhancing the overall experience for visitors.

Key improvements include:

  • TTD has invested approximately two crore rupees to improve facilities for pilgrims in Tirumala.
  • Shaded shelters have been arranged from Batagangamma Circle to Gogarbham Dam Circle up to the Outer Ring Road.
  • Mobile water drums have been deployed to ensure easy access to drinking water for visitors.
  • A total of 16 medical centers are now available for any health emergencies that may arise.
  • During the summer rush, TTD has made an additional 3.50 lakh laddus available for distribution among pilgrims.

This year’s summer rush is particularly noteworthy—TTD anticipates accommodating over 60,000 pilgrims daily. Prior to these enhancements, visitors often struggled with limited facilities during peak times. The lack of shaded areas and adequate hydration stations exacerbated discomfort during their visits.

With these changes, TTD aims not only to alleviate immediate discomfort but also to enhance the overall pilgrim experience. Families now have prioritized accommodation options, while arrangements for solo travelers have been adjusted accordingly. Interestingly, there are also 11 mini Kalyana Kattas across various rest houses to cater to diverse needs.

The number of barbers has also increased significantly; currently, there are 1,152 barbers available—269 of whom are women—to assist with traditional tonsuring practices. This shift reflects a growing recognition of the importance of comfort and convenience in such sacred spaces.

Experts suggest that these measures could significantly improve visitor satisfaction and safety during one of the busiest times of the year. Yet, as always, challenges remain. Officials have yet to clarify how these facilities will be maintained throughout the summer months.
