The PCI-PMI Transparency Platform reveals a significant increase in energy infrastructure projects amid rising inflation and economic uncertainty. On April 29, 2026, CINEA published data showcasing 235 new projects aimed at bolstering the EU’s energy landscape.

This list includes 113 electricity projects, 100 hydrogen projects, and 17 CO2 network projects. These initiatives are crucial as Europe grapples with high energy prices and inflation expectations, particularly given the recent economic slowdown.

Prior to this announcement, the manufacturing sector in Germany showed signs of strain, with output and new orders edging higher but warning signs of potential contraction looming large. “The recovery in the German economy has been stopped in its tracks by the war in the Middle East,” noted a spokesperson from an agency.

These new projects will benefit from streamlined permit-granting procedures and regulatory support, which should facilitate their implementation. Moreover, they are eligible for EU funding under the CEF Energy programme. The next call for applications is set to launch on April 30, 2026, with a deadline at the end of September.

Christine Lagarde recently emphasized the importance of gathering more information regarding monetary policy amidst the ongoing uncertainties. She stated that “the uncertainty about the duration of the shock and the breadth of pass-through argues for gathering more information before drawing firm conclusions for monetary policy.” This highlights how interconnected these energy initiatives are with broader economic trends.

As Europe pushes toward decarbonisation, cross-border energy infrastructure becomes increasingly vital. The challenge remains: can these ambitious projects be executed effectively while managing inflationary pressures? The evolving landscape calls for close attention as stakeholders navigate this complex environment.
