Sooryavanshi’s Wimbledon Experience
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a teenage batting sensation from India, recently attended the Wimbledon 2026 men’s singles final at the All England Club in London. The event, held on a Sunday, saw him witness the match between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. Sinner ultimately secured his second Wimbledon title, defeating Zverev with a score of 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-4.
Sooryavanshi, who recently made his debut for India, was accompanied by fellow opener Abhishek Sharma. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was also present at Centre Court, along with Sanju Samson, adding to the strong Indian cricket presence at the tournament. This marked Sooryavanshi’s first experience watching a Grand Slam live, an occasion he described as memorable.
The young cricketer expressed his excitement about observing how players approach a final in such a major tournament. He noted that it was a dream come true to be there and soak in the atmosphere of one of the world’s biggest sporting stages. His attendance continued a trend of Indian cricketers at Wimbledon, following earlier visits by Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill to the men’s singles semi-finals.
Outfit and Tennis Preferences
Sooryavanshi garnered attention for his formal attire, which included a black blazer, white shirt, striped tie, and tinted sunglasses. He humorously revealed that his outfit for the occasion was arranged at the last minute, with significant help from Abhishek Sharma. “I didn’t plan anything; whatever I could find in the last minute, I asked Abhishek and he got it arranged for me, and I just wore it,” Sooryavanshi stated, crediting Sharma for his assistance.
Beyond his appearance, Sooryavanshi shared his long-standing interest in tennis, having followed the sport for several years. He mentioned growing up watching tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, expressing a particular fondness for Djokovic. Among the current generation of tennis players, he cited Carlos Alcaraz as a favourite, though Alcaraz was not playing in this year’s tournament.
Despite his admiration for Alcaraz, Sooryavanshi predicted that Jannik Sinner would win the Wimbledon trophy, a prediction that proved accurate. He was impressed by Sinner’s dominance throughout the tournament, stating, “I’ve really liked Sinner, the way he has dominated throughout the tournament. Hopefully, he wins today.”
Cricket Connections and Future Outlook
When asked about his ideal tennis doubles partner, Sooryavanshi light-heartedly chose Abhishek Sharma, citing their established partnership in cricket. “I will go with Abhishek bhaiya. He is my opening partner in international cricket. I really enjoy batting with him a lot, so I will choose him as my doubles tennis partner as well,” he explained.
Sooryavanshi’s visit to Wimbledon followed his senior India debut in a recently concluded T20I series against England. At 15 years and 99 days, he became India’s youngest international debutant, surpassing a long-standing record. India lost the five-match T20I series against England with a score of 0-4.
His presence at Wimbledon, alongside other prominent Indian cricketers, highlighted the crossover appeal of major sporting events and the camaraderie among athletes. The memorable experience allowed the young cricketer to observe the intensity of a Grand Slam final firsthand, further enriching his sporting journey.
The event took place on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
