Ajinkya Rahane’s Distinguished Career Concludes
Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from international cricket, concluding a career that spanned nearly two decades. The veteran batter shared his decision through an emotional video on Instagram, prompting tributes from across the cricketing world, including from his Mumbai teammate and former India captain, Rohit Sharma.

Rahane represented India in 85 Tests, accumulating 5,077 runs, which included 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries, at an average of 38.46. In 90 One Day Internationals (ODIs), he scored 2,962 runs, with three centuries and 24 fifties, averaging 35.26. He also played 20 T20 Internationals (T20Is), scoring 375 runs with one half-century.
Leadership and Key Contributions
As India’s Test captain, Rahane maintained an unbeaten record, securing four wins and two draws. He holds the highest win percentage among Indian Test captains who have led the team in at least five matches. The BCCI noted his clarity of thought, sound judgment, and the belief he instilled in his teammates.
One of Rahane’s most significant achievements as captain came during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
